机构简介:

The Laboratory of Marine Engineering (LME) is part of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (view history of School ) of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. The Laboratory building in the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens was completed in 1998. The Laboratory personnel includes academic and research staff, doctoral students, as well as administrative and technical staff. The activities of the Laboratory of Marine Engineering are focused on Marine Propulsion System Research with particular emphasis on experimental and theoretical investigations of engine/load dynamics. The research spectrum of the laboratory covers marine propulsion and auxiliary engines, shipboard mechanical and electrical systems and advanced control systems for marine diesel engines.

Three restored historical marine prive movers grace the entrance of the Laboratory building. A steam engine (Canadian Vickers-1943), a steam turbine (BBC-Brown Boveri et Cie-1928) and a diesel engine (DWK-Deutsche Werke Kiel-1929).

The Laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art engine testing facility, including electrical and hydraulic dynamometers, allowing complex transient loadings. The Laboratory extensive computing facilities have been used in the development of advanced simulation codes for engine design as well as the implementation of propulsion optimisation software for performance and emissions prediction of marine propulsion plants. The Laboratory is engaged in numerous research and development projects sponsored by Government, the Industry, the European Union and other International Organisations. At the same time, the Laboratory maintains close links with the industry and provides consulting services to the international maritime community.
